The Magic Flute

Friday 3rd February 2012

Following their recent highly successful visit to The Apex with Bizet's Carmen, we are delighted that Co-Opera Co are returning with:-

Mozart’s The Magic Flute
Sung in Christopher Cowell’s English translation
Accompanied by the Co-Opera Co. Orchestra.

Mozart’s fantasy quest opera contains some of his most celebrated, beautiful and demanding music; the Queen of the Night’s aria, famous for its thrilling high notes (top F) and Sarastro’s aria Isis and Osiris for its sonorous low notes (bottom F).

In a mythical land somewhere between sun and moon, the young prince Tamino is rescued from a savage monster by three mysterious ladies. But can they or their ruler, the Queen of the Night be trusted? Is Sarastro really as evil as they suggest? And what about the beautiful princess Pamina? Tamino has a lot to learn. He sets out on a journey to rescue his princess and to find enlightenment armed only with some enchanted bells, a man dressed as a bird and a Magic Flute.

Mozart’s mystical fairy tale comes to life in Christopher Newell’s joyous production – a fanciful story of low comedy and high ideals – a sheer delight and ultimately – great fun!

Tickets are £26/19 (£24/17 concessions), show starts approx 7.30pm
